My son Nick wrote a book about his very first tennis tournament while he was a junior in high school. The impact that tennis has had on his life has been tremendous and he wanted to share his story.

“My first tennis Tournament” book was created to help parents introduce and educate their young children to the rules of tennis, promote reading and inspire future athletes to stay diligent and always have fun.

Our philosophy is that, although there are many ways to play and learn, free unstructured play is one of the most valuable sources of learning, and that children need space and freedom to plan ideas, to consider alternative ideas, to choose an idea to act on, to reflect on that choice, and to adapt their choices or ideas with each subsequent experience.

Most of us reflect back fondly on the ease of childhood, the ease in which we sought amusement. The daily activities of following our imagination outside of the lines, climbing in the tree house to escape to another jungle world, playing catch in the park, testing measurements of ingredients for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Dressing up in costumes is an important type of play that every child needs to experience. Children seek it out naturally. Today your kids will play as pirates, tomorrow they are superheroes, the next day lords and ladies at a tea party.

The costumes they use reinforce the scenarios so that these rituals have profound positive effects on their development.

Blankies, thumbs, pacifiers, and tattered old teddy bears – these objects provide real comfort and a sense of security, helping children soothe themselves and cope with many everyday feelings and experiences.

When my son Nick began to toddle about on his own stubby legs, his constant companion was a blue blanket.
